Watch Video Here: Cavoodle Puppy Enrichment Activities at 3 Weeks Old| Harley & Co Cavoodles
Cavoodle puppy enrichment begins long before puppies leave for their new homes. At Harley & Co Cavoodles, we believe that raising confident, adaptable Cavoodle puppies starts with carefully planned experiences from the earliest weeks of life.
As Waves’ puppies reach three weeks of age, they are becoming more mobile, more curious, and more aware of the world around them. This is the perfect time to expand their environment and introduce carefully chosen enrichment activities that support healthy neurological development.
This week, the puppies graduated to an upgraded play pen designed to gently challenge their growing minds and bodies while building confidence through positive experiences.
How Cavoodle Puppy Enrichment Supports Development
Puppy Enrichment Activities for Cavoodle Puppies:
Exploring Different Textured Surfaces
One of the first things you’ll notice in the puppies’ new pen is the variety of flooring textures. Rather than walking exclusively on soft bedding, the puppies now have access to different surfaces including textured tiles, artificial grass, and other safe materials.
Why is this important?
During the critical socialisation period, puppies are learning how to navigate the world using all of their senses. Exposure to different textures helps develop:
- Balance and coordination
- Proprioception (awareness of where their body is in space)
- Confidence when encountering unfamiliar surfaces later in life
- Problem-solving skills and adaptability
Puppies that have experienced a variety of surfaces early in life are often more comfortable walking on everything from polished timber floors and tiles to outdoor pathways and playground equipment.
Mirror, Mirror on the Wall
You may also spot our soft play mirror mounted activity.
While puppies don’t recognise themselves in a mirror the way humans do, mirrors provide fascinating visual stimulation at this age. The movement they see encourages curiosity and interaction while helping develop visual awareness and confidence.
Many puppies will approach their reflection, investigate it, paw at it, or attempt to interact with their “new friend.” These simple experiences encourage exploration and help build resilience when encountering new sights and situations.
Most importantly, the mirror creates a positive opportunity for puppies to investigate something unfamiliar in a safe environment.
Introducing the Artificial Grass Toilet Area
One of the most exciting additions is the artificial grass toilet station.
As puppies mature, they naturally begin to move away from their sleeping area when they need to toilet. By providing a clearly defined toilet space, we can start encouraging this instinctive behaviour from an early age.
Benefits of introducing artificial grass include:
- Encouraging puppies to separate sleeping and toileting areas
- Establishing the foundations for future toilet training
- Providing a realistic outdoor-like surface
- Helping puppies develop good habits before they leave for their new homes
While three-week-old puppies are still very young and not yet fully toilet trained, these early experiences help create valuable associations that can make future training easier.
Building Confident, Curious Puppies
Every item in our puppy pen has a purpose. From the textures beneath their paws to the reflections in the mirror and the grass underfoot, each experience is carefully selected to provide age-appropriate enrichment.
Research and practical breeding experience continue to show that puppies exposed to varied, positive experiences during early development are often better equipped to cope with new environments, sounds, surfaces, and situations later in life.
These enrichment activities are part of our From Whelp to Woof! Puppy Prodigy Program, which focuses on supporting each puppy’s development through carefully planned experiences from birth through to go-home day.
For now, Waves’ puppies are spending their days exploring, investigating, playing, and occasionally tumbling over one another as they discover their exciting new world. Watching their confidence grow a little more each day is one of the most rewarding parts of raising a litter.
We can’t wait to share more of their adventures as they continue to develop over the coming weeks. Stay tuned for more updates from these adorable little explorers! 🐾 Whelp to Woof Puppy Prodigy Program Our Puppies
